Clinical Supervision

I have been engaged in providing clinical supervision and training for frontline colleagues since 1985, including child and youth counsellors, nurses, social workers and psychiatric residents. I have experience with individual and group supervision in hospital and clinic settings. Presently, I offer individual and dyadic supervision for therapists in private practice, using a collaborative/consultation model. The foundation of effective clinical supervision and consultation is compassionate collaboration. With a wealth of knowledge and clinical experience to draw from, I have much to offer new and experienced therapists.

I am honoured to have been accepted as a qualified clinical supervisor with the CRPO. I am excited to be an external clinical supervisor for Toronto Psychotherapy Apace and Another Path Psychotherapy in Ottawa. Please feel free to connect with me for a free 30 minute consultation.

Clinical Supervision Evaluation

Psychotherapists with varying levels of experience responded to a brief questionnaire, anonymously. Below are some samples of questions and answers:

Q    How effective was Don in establishing a connection with you?
A    “I have only met with Don a handful of times, but he was and still is quite welcoming when providing feedback. One thing I do remember from the first session is Don actively taking notes when I would be speaking and making eye contact. That showed me active listening but wanted to ensure he grabbed the important points to provide feedback. “

“Don has been great at establishing a connection. He’s been able to provide validation and ask thoughtful questions as well as share personal experiences which provide insight and guidance.”

Q    How effectively did Don communicate his perspective on supervision, so you would be clear what he is offering, and what he expects from you?
A    “I feel that Don does not try to give only 1 perspective even when he may be well adapted in said modality, but tries to bring in EFT, CBT, IFS, etc to help with difficulties that myself and others may be experiencing. Don so far has not set expectations for myself besides bringing material for myself to discuss in our setting.”

“Very effective. I find Don clear in communication and reasoning behind particular suggestions or advice. If I’m ever unclear I feel comfortable in asking clarifying questions and am able to obtain the information I need.”

Q    “What specific things about the supervision that Don provided, stands out for you as most helpful?

“I would say one of the major things is his laid back nature that makes you feel comfortable when speaking about difficulties. It does not feel as though you are being choked from feeling incompetent more so he makes you feel empowered when you are explaining the situation and what proactive steps we have already attempted to implement.”

“Don’s attentiveness and ability to provide constructive feedback stand out as the most helpful aspects of his supervision. He always offered insights that were directly applicable to my practice, and his guidance helped me grow both professionally and personally.”
